I have been known to be a little “silly” at times (ok, probably more like a lot of times). I love to have fun, to laugh and to make other people laugh (and sometimes, I’ll admit, I’m probably really just laughing at myself).
On occasion I’ve been known to spontaneously break out into song. I have also been known to sing commercial jingles as I’m using a certain product or perhaps to just make up my own song or change the words to a song just to accommodate whatever it is I’m doing. Yes, I’m one of those people.
I think at times, this can be one of my endearing qualities and at other times it can be a quality that crawls right under your skin and sounds like nails on a chalk board.
I should probably tell you that I do NOT have a good singing voice. But, it sure doesn’t stop me from singing the Bum-Bum-Bumble-Bee song as I make tuna fish. Nor does it stop me from belting out The-Incredible-Edible-Egg as I’m whisking in the kitchen. The best part of these scenarios is that many commercials that are forever plastered in my mind, that often make their way into our every-day lives, are actually from commercials that hubby doesn’t even know. It’s not all that often that our age difference shows itself but, I’ve found over the years, that a 4 year age difference is extremely apparent when we talk about music and commercials from the 1970s.
I remember one time I was singing “Rock The Boat” by the Hues Corporation. Now I hope this song reference isn’t too young for many of you but suffice to say.. I’m singing …”our love is like a ship on the ocean”…. And hubby’s head is cocked to the side, a bit like a dog who’s trying desperately to understand the mumbo jumbo coming out of my mouth. So, there I am… “rock the boat… don’t rock the boat baby”. And hubby’s like.. “I have no idea what you’re singing”…. And, I’m like “rock the boat… don’t tip the boat over….” And he’s like please, oh please, stop with these stupid 70s songs.. not only don’t I know it, but I don’t want to know it.
So, I have told hubby that there’s not enough song in his life. And, that he’d be living a happier existence with more song. I’ve also told him that I’ve been put here in his life to bring him happiness through song and that he should join me in singing every now and then. I’m not sure he agrees with this theory but he does indulge me, on most occasions, when I break out in song… until of course the Black Eyed Peas released their “I’ve Got a Feeling” song this past year. That’s about the time hubby bought a roll of duct tape and started waving it at me anytime I started singing.
You see, hubby can’t stand this song… and it happens to be a song that seems to fit into our lives quite frequently. There are a number of circumstances where I want to say… “I’ve got a feeling.. that tonight’s gonna be a good night” . Take last night for instance… where I was convinced we had the winning Mega-Millions lottery tickets. So, every 20-30 minutes I felt the need to share with hubby my sentiments.. that “tonight’s gonna be a good, good night”.
Needless to say, we didn’t win the lottery…. And, as it turns out, it wasn’t all that good of a night since I woke up this morning with duct tape stuck to my mouth…
Sorry honey.. and, just to try to avoid some morning duct tape….
I have just one thing to say (courtesy of Captain & Tennille – 1975)
Love, Love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talkin’ girl comes along singin’ his song
Don’t mess around,
You just got to be strong
Just Stop, ’cause I really love You
Stop, I’ll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

I was singing the BEPs song this morning to my kids. Our whole family sort of breaks into song at all times of the day, and not in a good way.
My hubbies worst song habit is to sing a really annoying and catchy tune and then say, whatever you do don’t get that stuck in your head.
Next thing I know, I am singing it…Grr.

As I write this, my husband is watching old Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac concerts on his laptop. 🙂
