Hubby & I have been married for over 14 years.
I was a career driven late bloomer and I wasn’t married until I was 32. Or, I suppose I could argue that I was just “waiting for Mr. Right”. Either way, I was no youngster when I embarked on this wonderful journey of marriage and every day I learn something new about the inherent differences between men & women. This blog is a tribute to these differences. It’s a place where I share anecdotal stories about my hubby’s annoying, irritating, endearing qualities and all posts are intended to be read as lighthearted humor. If you’re bothered or offended by something I’ve written, I have but 2 words for you: Lighten Up!
Here are some random truths (as I see them) from the past 10 or so years:
(I reserve the right to add to/amend this as necessary!)
- Marriage is fun
- Marriage is hard work
- Men & women never, ever, see things through the same eyes
- Clean is not always clean
- The TV is never big enough
- Bright lights, bells and whistles make just about anything better
- Nagging & talking can sometimes be synonymous
- A man cave can be a lifesaver (for both of you!)
- Sometimes a hug can go a long way
- Communication only works when you are both listening………..
So, with all that being said. My hubby is truly a great guy. Yes, we have our battles, we disagree, we laugh & we cry, but through it all we love each other… and that’s what matters most.
Without further ado, I’ll introduce you to the man that has inspired this blog. Don’t hold it against him, for he is a man, and truth be told, men do what men do, and they are what they are. And, the best advice I can give any woman is to understand that we cannot change this. For just as we may not fully understand the moon & the stars, we may never fully understand the mind of a man.
Well, this picture just about says it all….

I love the picture of your husband bowling. Did you jump in front of him to take the photo at that position? (facing the pins) You have the perfect attitude toward marriage. Best wishes to many more years of life together.
Who took the photo of the two of you on the beach? was it a professional? It looks like it could be on a card (that’s a compliment).

Katharine ~ Thank you so much for the compliment. The bowling picture was taken by a friend and believe it or not, it was actually hubby hamming it up for the camera, I don’t think he was even in the lane at the time! As for the beach photo, it was a professional engagement picture by our wedding photographer. It’s truly one of my all time favorite shots!!

I have been in a severe battle with depression since the death of my father in 2009. There is a line in the 1st sex and the city movie when carey asked “will i ever laugh again”. i asked myself this same question. and miranda was right when she responded “yes, when something is really funny” well thank goodness for skrapdiggy.wordpress and now you. i have been literally howling. and yes i mean that kind of laugh out loud and cant explain why you are laughing because you cant catch your breath. your descriptions of hubby make me feel like i am right in the center of your house watching it all unfold. i picked up a pint of ice cream in the store and nearly peed my pants visualizing hubby making it all even or washing the ice cream bowl. i guess i said all that to say thank you. it is likely that we will never meet or become more than fb friends (if i dare reenter the world) but you have truly saved my life. laughter is the key. it wasnt the meds they tried to give me cause like i told them im sad not crazy. it wasnt the endless conversations or the attempts at group therpy. it was a lady with her quirky husband allowing me a glimpse into their life reminding that it will all be okay. so thanks. you keep writing and i will keep reading.

Saudia,
For someone who’s almost always ready with some sort of snappy remark, you’ve left me without words. I can’t possibly tell you how much I appreciate your email, it has honestly touched my heart.
I’m so sorry that you’ve been struggling. As someone who truly believes that laughter is the best medicine, I’m so happy that you’ve found a way to laugh again. And saying that I was able to help play a role in that, makes me feel incredible. When I set out to write about the humor in my marriage there were a lot of naysayers who didn’t understand that I really do have a healthy & happy relationship with my hubby. I think there’s a ton of humor that can be found in every-day life, it’s just a matter of looking for it … and sometimes the best therapy is discovering that when you’re down and frustrated it’s ok to smile & laugh. My blog serves as my own source of therapy (otherwise I’d have to lock hubby out of the house some days!). It helps me to search for the humor in the midst of all my daily annoyances and it helps me believe that everything will work out in the end.
My wish for you is many more days of laughter… and I’m quite certain that hubby will continue to provide me with material and I will continue to share my stories!
Thanks again!
